Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –
The Temple women's tennis team had an impressive performance this afternoon, defeating the Buffalo Bulls, 4-3, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

Seniors Theresa Stangl and Christine Clermont dropped just one game in defeating the Bulls' Tamara Markovic and Dominica Nemec, 8-1, in second doubles to get things rolling. Senior duo of Elyse Steiner and Lucie Pazderova lost to Buffalo's Miranda Podlas and Diana Popescu, 8-2, to make the final doubles bout count. Strong play at third doubles would secure the doubles point for the Owls with the freshman duo of Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina, who won 8-4 at third doubles to secure the point.

In singles play, freshman Alicia Doms fell to Buffalo's Shelby Bates 6-4, 6-2 to even the match. With the score tied at one a piece, Pazderova gave the Owls a lead with a win at fifth singles over Nemec, 6-4, 6-3. However, the score would become tied again with a loss at six singles by Josephine Bergman 7-6(5) 6-1. The Owls would then pick up another win at second singles, with Elyse Steiner defeating Aleksandra Petrova, 7-5, 6-4. Her match was then followed by Stangl at first singles, who lost the first set 6-2, came back to win the second 6-3, before falling 6-1 in the third. With the match tied at 3-3 the deciding point came down Mavrina. After losing the first set, 3-6, Mavrina came back to win the match 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

The Owls improve to 3-3 for the season. They will continue play tomorrow when they host the Binghamton Bearcats at 9am at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
