Hopkinson to work with Football team

PHILADELPHIA – Herb Hopkinson has been named an academic advisor for the Student-Athlete Academic Advising & Support Center at Temple University.

The New Port Richey, Fla., native will work primarily with the football team.

Hopkinson came to Temple after serving as the tutor coordinator and assistant learning specialist at Texas Tech University. During his tenure, he was charged with developing a comprehensive tutorial support program and managing over 100 tutors and academic coaches to serve the needs of over 400 student-athletes.

“Herb is one of the top young professionals in the country,” said Justin Miller, Director of Student-Athlete Academic Advising & Support Center. “We are extremely excited to have Herb as part of our team as he is going to have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes.”

Since 2008, Hopkinson has served as a facilitator for the National Consortium for Academics and Sports in Orlando, integrating technology into presentations.

While earning his master's degree at the University of South Florida in 2009, Hopkinson worked with USF's baseball team and ensured the team's academic success through mentoring and a structured study program. As result of his efforts, the team earned the Provost's Trophy for Most Improved Team GPA in fall of 2009. Hopkinson earned a bachelor's of science degree in sport management from University of Florida in 2007.

Hopkinson is a member of the National Association for Academic Advisors in Athletics.
