Freshman batted .571 in 5-3 week for the Owls
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Stephanie Pasquale was honored as the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 13, 2011. Fordham's Jocelyn Dearborn was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Sara Plourde of Massachusetts claimed Pitcher of the Week honors.
Pasquale played in five games for Temple last week, missing three games due to injury. The freshman catcher hit .571 on the week (8-for-14) as the Owls went 5-3 at the Rebel Spring Games. Pasquale recorded at least one hit in four games while posting three multiple hit games. She hit .750 (3-for-4) in a 12-6 win over Detroit Mercy as she scored twice and drove in a pair. The Pompton Lakes, N.J., native then went 2-for-3 in back-to-back Temple victories over Lafayette and Columbia. Against Lafayette, Pasquale drove in four runs while picking up a double.
Dearborn hit five home runs, including twice hitting two home runs in a game as Fordham went 4-0 at the Cavalier Classic. The senior from New Milford, Pa., batted .563 (9-for-16) for the week driving in seven runs and scoring seven times. Dearborn recorded multiple hits in all four games and hit a walk-off home run to defeat #25 Syracuse, 4-3, in eight innings. The win over the Orange marked the third ranked opponent Fordham has defeated this year. She hit two solo home runs in an 8-4 victory over Virginia.
Plourde was dominant last week at the USF Under Armour Showcase, going 4-0 with 57 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work. The junior pitcher opened the tournament throwing three straight one-hit shutouts for the Minutewomen as UMass posted victories over Toledo, USF and Colorado State. In those first three starts, Plourde allowed just one walk each time out while striking out 11, 15 and 10, respectively. The 2010 A-10 Pitcher of the Year then struck out a season-high 18 batters in a 7-0 victory over Green Bay. The Bristol, Conn., native would finish the weekend allowing just two runs on 12 hits, while walking just four batters.
