Second-seeded Owls finish third for second-straight year

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
The second-seeded Temple women's tennis team ended the year with a win, claiming third place at the Atlantic 10 Championship being held in Charlottesville, Va., at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Owls defeated #4 George Washington, 4-0, in the third-place match.

Freshmen Yana Mavrina and Alicia Doms continued their solid doubles play, easily handling Jennifer Hirsh and Meg Tyner at number three, 8-2. Seniors Elyse Steiner and Lucie Pazderova followed with an 8-5 victory over Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn at number one to give TU the point.

In singles play, Doms put the Cherry and White up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Hirsh at number four. Classmate Jordan Batey added to the lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Krohn at the sixth flight. Steiner capped the match with her 6-4, 6-2 decision over Leah Pascarella at number two.

Temple finishes the year with a 17-7 overall record.
