Rookie earns spot on Northeast Region squad

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple softball's Stephanie Pasquale has been added another honor to an already impressive freshman year resume. The rookie catcher has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Northeast Region First Team, announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday, May 19. Pasquale is the first All-Region selection for Temple since Adrienne Repsher in 2007.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.

Pasquale, a catcher from Pompton Lakes, N.J., led the Owls in batting (.363), slugging percentage (.548), on base percentage (.404), hits (49) and RBI (35). The Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and second team and all-rookie selection struck out just five times this year, making her the 11th toughest to strikeout in the nation. She was sixth among conference players, and tops among freshmen, in batting average. Her 35 RBI is fourth in Temple's single-season history.

Temple finished the season with a 22-23 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Owls earned the fourth seed at the conference championship, making their first appearance in the tournament since 2007.
