WAYNE, Pa. –
Having Friday's home tilt with Francis Marion relocated due to inclement weather, the Temple women's soccer team used the confines of YSC Field to their advantage, knocking off the Patriots, 1-0, on sophomore Karly O'Toole's penalty kick goal in the 44th minute. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Tara Murphy nabbed her second shutout victory of the season in the Owls' third win of the season.

Francis Marion came out with strong offensive pressure in the opening moments of the first half, launching four shots in the first seven minutes—two of which were robbed by Murphy.

Temple's defense was unporous and limited the Patriots to offensive chances all game, allowing Francis Marion just four shots on goal for the entire contest.

The tide suddenly turned in the latter moments before the midway point. when O'Toole blasted a shot above the cross in the 41st minute, just missing a chance to break the scoreless tie.

Moments later, Francis Marion committed foul in the box that warranted a penalty kick for O'Toole. nA shot placed high in the right corner of the net, was the only tally the Owls would need to claim the victory.

Senior Niki Conn made her return on Friday when she served as a substitution for freshman Jean Scanlan in the 35th minute. Conn, who is the team's leading scorer, had been sidelined for the previous two games after sustaining an injury at Buffalo back on Sept. 9.  In the 63rd minute, she nearly extended the Owls' lead when she ripped a shot on goal, but was stopped by senior Lauren Vetock.

Senior goalkeeper Gillian Kacsuta also saw playing time in Friday's match, but outside of the net. In the 23rd minute, Kacsuta checked into the game to play as a forward.

Temple has improved to 3-5-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in home matches. The Owls have Saturday off from competition, but will return to the Ambler Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon to wrap up non-conference play when they host the Siena Saints at 2:30 p.m.
