BETHLEHEM, PA. – On the men's side of the 38th annual Paul Short Invitational presented by Brooks at Lehigh University on Friday, Temple placed 44th overall in the Men's Gold 8K, Freshman Matthew Kacyon led the Owls with a finish time of 26:35, to give him 226th place overall.
“Before the race we talked with Matthew [Kacyon] and asked him to run more competitive today,” head coach Matt Jelley said. “He did just that, and ended up being our first guy in.”
Sophomore Philip Fanz placed second among Temple runners with a finish time of 26:52, to give him 250th place overall.
Seniors Geoffrey Barletta and Ben Thomas finished inside the 27th minute before freshman Cullen Davis came in at 29:17 and senior Louis Parisi closed out the race for Temple at 30:52.
“From this race, the men have to go out faster, rather than wait to catch people at the end,” Jelley said. “It was a muddy day, so they could only go so fast and they could only beat so many other runners out. We should improve from what we learned here today.”
Travis Mahoney ran unattached earlier in the day in an open meet. In the race, Mahoney finished eighth overall.
Next up for the Owls, they'll head to State College, Pa. on Oct. 14 to compete in the Penn State National Invitational.
