Temple’s Bernard Pierce Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

Owls Travel to Akron for MAC Opener on Saturday
CLEVELAND – Temple junior RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) has earned the season's first Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
In Temple's 42-7 win over Villanova on Thursday, Pierce recorded the 10th 100-yard performance of his career. He finished with 20 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
His three rushing TDs tied his career high. He also had three TDs vs. Miami (2009) and at Toledo (2009).
Pierce is just the third player in Temple history to record 10 games of 100 yards rushing. He stands third in career 100-yard games.
Pierce now has 2,236 career rushing yards to rank No. 5 on the Owls' all-time list. He is second behind Paul Palmer (1983-86) in rushing touchdowns with 29. Pierce needs just 10 TDs to catch Palmer.
The MAC honor is the fifth of Pierce's collegiate career and his first this season.
Additionally, Pierce was named an Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week at RB by the College Football Performance Awards. Senior safety Kevin Kroboth (Nazareth, Pa.) earned the national Honorable Mention honor at DB. In Thursday's win over Villanova, Kroboth had two interceptions in the third quarter, marking the first multi-interception game of his career. He finished with five solos tackles. Kroboth now has five career interceptions. He leads the nation this week in interceptions. Junior PK Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) was recognized as the Honorable Mention kicker. He was a perfect six-for-six in extra points. He also kicked off seven times for 458 yards (65.4 average). McManus added punting to his list of duties, punting twice for a career-high 111 yards (and a career-high 55.5 average).
Temple (1-0, 0-0 MAC) opens MAC play at Akron (0-1, 0-0 MAC) on Sept. 10. The game will be televised on ESPN3.com at 6 p.m. from InfoCision Stadium.
