Sophomore Has Played in Every Game of His Career

PHILADELPHIA – Temple sophomore WR Ryan Alderman (Downingtown, Pa.) has been named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC Football Team, the Mid-American Conference announced on Friday.

One of seven Owls named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team in December, Alderman has a 3.54 GPA in business. A 2011 Capital One Academic All-America nominee, he was cited twice on the President's Honor Roll.  Alderman has played in every game of his collegiate career. Also playing on the punt, kickoff return, and punt return units, he had a career-long 48-yard reception in the win at Ball State.

A total of 35 student-athletes from the conference's 13 football schools were honored per voting of the faculty athletic representatives from each institution.

Eastern Michigan topped the team with six selections, followed by Northern Illinois with five. Central Michigan and Toledo each had four picks, while Ball State, Kent State, and Western Michigan garnered three selections.  Buffalo and Miami had two team members, while Akron, Ohio, and Temple rounded out the selections with one each.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.  The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections.

The Temple Owls finished the 2011 campaign at 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference following a 37-15 win over Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
