Owls look to improve on third-place finish in 2011
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Temple men's tennis team has been selected to finish second in the 12-team Atlantic 10 men's tennis conference. Defending champion George Washington has been selected to repeat as Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis champion in 2012, according to a vote of the league's head coaches.
Temple was a third-place finisher a year ago. The Owls return three All-Conference selections from 2011, including first-team pick Filip Rams and second-team recipients Dmitry Vizhunov and Stanislav Stekolshikov.
Last year's runner-up Xavier was tabbed to finish third at the 2012 Championship. Duquesne is picked to finish fourth, followed by Charlotte, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Fordham, Dayton, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis and La Salle.
The 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship, a single-elimination event, will be held April 13-15 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Center is home to the USTA's Western & Southern Financial Open, the largest professional summer tennis tournament in the nation outside of the US Open. The grounds are located approximately 20 miles north of Cincinnati and boast 16 hard surface, outdoor courts, including four permanent stadiums: Center Court (capacity: 11,435) and Grandstand Court (capacity: 5,000), along with the brand new Court #3 (capacity: 4,000), and Court #4 (capacity: 2,500).
