Fans Vote This Week on Record-Breaking Day at Maryland

CHICAGO – Voting for the finals of the All-Star Performances of the Year is now open, and Temple All-American RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) is a finalist, Intersport announced.

Fans can vote for Pierce via Facebook [www.Facebook.com/AllStarFootball] until January 22.

After winning Week 3, Pierce is a finalist for the Marines Running Back Performance of the Year with his record-breaking day in a 38-7 win over Maryland. Pierce rushed for a school record and MAC record-tying five touchdowns. He finished the game with 149 yards on 32 carries for five touchdowns, eclipsing the 100-yard mark for the 12th time in his career.

It marked the first time in his career that Pierce scored three touchdowns in the first quarter (on 31 yards rushing) alone.   The five rushing TDs also tied the MAC record, held by 10 players.  His 30 points also tied Sherman Myers' (vs. Syracuse, 1979) school record for most points in a game.

On January 6, three-time first-team All-MAC honoree announced he would forego his senior season at Temple and enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

As a junior in 2011, Pierce became Temple's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (53), total touchdowns (54), and points scored (324). He also set the season records for rushing TDs (27), total TDs (27), points scored (162), and 100-yard rushing games (9), while setting game records for rushing TDs in a game (5 at Maryland) and points scored (30 at Maryland).

Riding a four-game winning streak, the Owls finished the 2011 campaign at 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference, including a 37-15 win over Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

Pierce is competing against 17 other weekly running back winners from this season's competition. The winners will be announced during the All-Star Football Challenge special, airing Super Bowl Sunday [Feb. 5] at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Pierce also joins all the top weekly vote-getters from the quarterback, receiver and defense categories. Fan voting will decide one winner from each category, which will be named All-Star Performance of the Year.  Voting ends Sunday, January 22

All-Star Performances of the Year is a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season.
