Men's Gymnastics Competes in Individual Finals at West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. - In the second night of competition at the West Point Open, 10 Owls were featured in the individual finals in Saturday night's session of the two-night competition, compliments of their second place finish in the team meet on Friday evening
The Owls were led by senior Evan Burke, who had the highest finish among all Temple participants, as he took second place in floor exercise with his score of 15.000. His score was just .100 off from Penn State's Parker Raque. In that event, Temple's John Leonard (14.700) placed fourth, while Allan Malone (14.350) came in sixth.
On the high bar, junior Alex Tighe placed fourth with his score of 14.200, finishing behind theee Penn State gymnasts. Malone finished second among Temple competitors in the event, as he placed just behind Tighe for sixth place (13.900). Graduate student Blake Collins scored 13.450 on the apparatus in his only event of the evening.
Senior Taylor Brana, who competed in three events on Saturday night had his best placement on the parallel bars, where he was Temple's lone representative. Scoring 14.200 on the apparatus, Brana claimed a fourth place score.
Brana also competed on the pommel horse where he was also Temple's top-finisher. In the event, he palced fifth overall with a score of 13.000.
On rings, Brana wrapped up hisday along with junior Dashiell Sears in the event.
Sears and Brana placed back-to-back in the order of sixth and seventh, respectively, with scores of 14.150 and 13.950.
Junior Brett Statman got the night started for the Owls with a strong sixth place finish on the vault, scoring 14.700. Senior Matt Martin completed the event with a score of 14.200, which put him in eighth place.
The Owls will remain on the road for one more competition before returning to McGonigle Hall. On Thursday, Temple will open competition out in Las Vegas, Nev. when it takes part in the Winter Cup Challenge.
