WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Chris Mooney took part in four events, totaling 55.700 for the third-highest overall score of the night to help the No. 9 Temple men's gymnastics team defeat Army, 334.300-330.900 on Friday night. The dual-meet victory gives the Owls their fourth meet win of the season in five opportunities. The nationall ranked Temple squad now owns a record of 12-1 on the year.
Mooney helped the Owls swipe the top spot, having third place finishes on both pommel horse (14.100) and on still rings (14.600)
Junior Brett Statman and senior Logna Fiery had the two strongest finishes for Temple on this night. Statman led all competitiors in the vault event with his earned score of 14.400, while Fiery's demonstration was impressive enough to deem him the event-high score of 13.800 on the horizontal bars.
Senior Blake Collins placed just behind Fiery on bars, as he was garnered with a second place tally of 13.700.
Freshman Micheal Bittner put on one of his more impressive meets, as he took the runner-up position on pommel horse, receiving a score of 14.100.
Also playing a large contribution in Temple's third-straight win was Taylor Brana and Jeff Zack. Brana tied Mooney with a like score of 14.600 on rings for third place, while Zack's 13.100 on vault positioned him in third place in the event.
The No. 9 Owls remain in West Point for the weekend, as they will face Army again on Sunday afternoon when Springfield arrives to join them for a tri-meet set to begin at 1:00 p.m. A live stream of the meet will be provided by clicking here.
