No. 9 Owls Take Five Event Titles; Defeat Army and Springfield

WEST POINT, N.Y.— Temple Men's Gymnastics, the No. 7 ranked team in the nation, remains consistent and continues to surge. On Sunday in the tri-meet held at West Point, the Owls took the top-spot in the competition, earning a total of 340.900 to beat out host Army (334.900) and Springfield (323.900). Temple had a competitor win a title in five of six events. Senior Chris Mooney won all around with a score of 83.800, while Michael Bittner, Brett Statman, Alex Tighe and Matt Martin all won an event title.
Tighe displayed the most impressive overall afternoon for the Owls as he turned in first place finishes on parallel bars and on horizontal bars. The Brookfield, WI native posted a score of 14.500on the parallel bars before taking the top spot on horizontal bars with his earned total of 14.300.
Allan Malone was a close runner-up to Tighe on horizontal bars, as he took a second place finish, as he was garnered with a score of 14.200. Logan Fiery placed third with his performance on the apparatus with his score of 14.100. Blake Collins earned sixth place with his score of 13.800 to round out Temple's stellar performance in the event.
Following Tighe on parallel bars was Fiery, as he was granted a fifth place score of 14.100.
Statman collected the top score on the floor with a total of 15.200. Malone followed in second place with an earned total of 15.100, ahead of all around champion Chris Mooney in fourth place (14.600).
Winning another event title for the Owls was Bittner, as he nailed down the top score on pommel horse with his tally of 14.200. Taylor Brana placed third in the event with his score of 13.900, while Mooney tied for fourth place, as he earned a 13.800.
Brana hauled in Temple's top score on still rings with a second place overall score of 14.900.
Martin won the vault exercise event, as he was awarded a score of 14.700. Jeff Zack held the runner-up spot with his total of 14.300.
The No. 9 Owls improve to 14-1 on the year and set their sights on their dual-meet with Navy on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
