Statman and Brana lead Owls to sixth meet win this season

ANNAPOLIS , Md. – No. 9 Temple Men's Gymnastics won all six events in Saturday afternoon's dual-meet at the U.S. Naval Academy, taking a 334.900-326.300 win from the No. 15 Navy Midshipmen. The Owls claimed their sixth meet victory in seven opportunities this season, giving them a 15-1 record on the year.
Through six events, five Temple performers claimed titles, including: sophomore John Leonard on floor exercise, senior Chris Mooney on vault, junior Brendan Statman on horizontal bars and fourth-year competitor Taylor Brana on still rings and parallel bars.
Statman was Temple's top performer on the day, as he not only took first place on the horizontal bars with his score of 14.100, but also was the runner-up in the floor exercise (14.500) and on the vault (14.400). Statman combined for a score of 43.000 through his events, earning him Temple's top individual multi-event score, which ranked him sixth overall.
Brana, who took event titles on parallel bars and on rings combined for TU's second-best multi-event point total, finishing just shy of Statman in seventh place with a score of 42.900.
Mooney earned third place among Temple gymnasts with a total score of 43.700. Along with his first place 14.500 score on the vault, Mooney placed only behind Navy's A Faulk on pommel horse with his earned total of 13.800.
Faulk won the dual-meet as an individual, with the top all-around score in the meet at 83.400.
Graduate student Blake Collins contributed to the Owls' win with the team's second-best score on rings (14.000), while junior Alex Tighe chipped in with a 13.700 on pommel horse, setting Temple's second-highest score in the event.
Temple will now prepare for next Saturday night's meet at William & Mary with Army at 7:00 p.m.
