Pierce Earns Offensive Player of the Year Honor

PHILADELPHIA – Three Temple Owls-- senior OL Pat Boyle (Towson, Md.), junior RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.), and senior DE Adrian Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa.)-- were named 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Football Bowl Subdivision All-Stars on Monday.

Pierce was also named the 2011 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year.

The ECAC will honor its team of 27 FBS All-Stars on February 16 at the annual ECAC Awards Banquet at the Lexus Club at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The All-Stars were determined by coaches within the ECAC Division I membership.

A first-team All-Mid-American Conference selection, Boyle started all 13 games at left tackle. He also saw action as a member of the field goal unit. Boyle and his four fellow offensive linemen combined for 135 starting appearances.  Providing great protection, the offensive line gave up no sacks against four opponents this season.

A three-time first-team All-MAC selection, Pierce became Temple's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (53), total touchdowns (54), and points scored (324). He also set the season records for rushing TDs (27), total TDs (27), points scored (162), and 100-yard rushing games (9), while setting game records for rushing TDs in a game (5 at Maryland) and points scored (30 at Maryland). Pierce also earned ECAC All-Star honors as a true freshman in 2009. Last week he announced that he will forego his senior season to enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

A three-time first-team All-MAC selection, team captain Robinson started all 13 games at defensive end. Named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, he finished the season with 52 tackles, 13.5 TFL, a team-best 6.5 sacks, an interception, and a blocked kick. Playing in EVERY game of his collegiate career, Robinson started 32 consecutive games and 38 games total. Robinson was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

The Owls finished the 2011 campaign at 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference following a 37-15 win over Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
