TEMPLE NOTES...
Temple comes into this weekend having the ninth-best save percentage (0.885) in the nation, compliments it ruthless goalkeepers—redshirt senior Tara Murphy and freshman Shauni Kerkhoff. Kerkhoff's 0.59 goals against average and Murphy's 1.59 goals against average have kept opponent strikers at bay and has kept the Owls in every game this season.
Coming off their 1-0 win at Duquesne last Sunday, the Owls have been involved in nine straight games decided by one goal or less. Freshman midfielder Paige Rachel secured the shutout victory for the Owls when she headed a ball into the net that was fed to her on a free kick from senior Jourdan Brill. With the clean sheet the team turned in, it marked the fifth shutout of the year for the Owls, which equals last season's total. One more shutout this season will give the program its most in a season since 1992.
RHODE ISLAND NOTES...
The Rams enter Friday's match on a three-game losing streak, which has left URI with a 7-6-1 record, and an 0-3- start to A-10 play. Senior Ashley Evangelista leads the team in goals with five, and her two assists on the year brings her points total to 12. Junior forward Jennifer Barrientos also has 12 points, yielding from four goals and four assists. The Rams' young goalkeeper crew consists of sophomore Reilly Lindsey and freshman Chelsea Broghamer. While Broghamer played all 90 minutes of their last game, Lindsey has seen a bulk of the playing time, where she has gathered a 1.90 goals against average.
MASSACHUSETTS NOTES...
MASSACHUSETTS NOTES...
Before taking on the Owls Sunday, Massachusetts (7-6-0, 2-1-0) will go to Saint Joseph's on Friday, looking to extend its two-game winning streak. Last weekend the Minutewomen swept a pair of A-10 matches, by defeating Rhode Island, 3-1, following their 2-0 drubbing of Xavier. Sophomore midfielder Moa Mattsson, a native of Sweden, leads the Minutewomen with 17 points on seven goals and three assists on the year. Senior Emily Cota (0.86 goals against average) and senior Stephanie Gordon (1.50 goals against average) have split time in goals this season, with Cota receiving the most playing time.
