Four Women's Tennis Players to Compete at USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional

10.18.12 | Women's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – Temple will send four women's tennis players to the 2012 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championship this weekend, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Owls send Jordan Batey, Alicia Doms, Yana Mavrina and Maame Ama Osei to the competition, which will take place Oct 19-23.

The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete at one of the 87 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held across the country.

Batey, Doms and Mavrina, all juniors, have each played in the event in their first two seasons. Batey has had success in both singles and doubles, posting winning records of 4-2 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play. Doms also excels in singles play, going 4-1 over the two-year span. She and Mavrina have played their doubles bouts together both years, posting a 1-2 record. Mavrina, often playing in the top half of a challenging draw, is 1-3 in singles at the tournament.

Osei, a sophomore, will be making her first appearance at the tournament.

The USTA/ITA Regional marks the team's final competition of the fall. The 2013 Owls get the season underway on January 18 at the VCU 4+1 Invite.
