PHILADELPHIA - The 2011-12 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Shey Peddy is continuing her career overseas in Israel, having signed with Hapoel Rishon of the Israeli Women's Basketball League. Peddy was Temple's third-ever WNBA Draft pick back in the Spring, but just narrowly missed out on a roster spot with the Chicago Sky.

"This is a great opportunity for Shey to continue playing basketball at a very high level," said Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza. "We're excited for her and we'll miss her here at Temple, but we look forward to following her success overseas."

Peddy, also a two-time Big 5 Player of the Year, was the team and league leader last season with 17.6 points per game. On the national scale, she was honored as a WBCA All-Region selection which made her a candidate for All-American honors. Peddy averaged 3.1 steals per game to lead the team, rank second in the A-10 and 17th among all players in NCAA Division I.

In just two years at Temple, Peddy surpassed the 1,000-point mark and finished with 1,045 points as an Owl and 1,899 overall, including two years at Wright State.

Peddy finished her career ranked ninth all-time at Temple in steals after just two seasons, with 206. Her 10 steals in a win at Rhode Island tied the all-time single game program record. Impressive from the perimeter, Peddy hit 77 three-pointers last season to rank first all-time in a single season.

Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion is based near Tel-Aviv, and will begin its season in early November. Peddy's team currently has three other American players on its roster.

While Peddy begins her professional career in Israel, back at Temple is a freshman guard, May Dayan, who hails from that same country. As a point guard, Dayan will help fill the void left by Peddy and two other graduated guards B.J. Williams and Kristen McCarthy.
