PHILADELPHIA – Hosting the Atlantic 10 Conference Cross Country Championships, sophomore Jenna Dubrow led the Owls with her 25th place finish, as the team placed 14th out of the 16 schools. With her time of 18:38.5, Dubrow improved her placement from a year ago in the conference championship meet, going from 54th to 27th in this year's running of the 5k at Belmont Plateau at West Fairmount Park. Having Temple's fastest finish gives the Jackson, N.J. native her 10th straight race by which she has come away as the top finisher for the Owls.
Butler, who is in its inaugural season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, got its membership off to solid beginning, as it won the 2012 A-10 Cross Country Championship with a team total of 37 points.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Katie Clark, who was named the league's Outstanding Performer of the Year after having a first place time of 16:55.9. Defending champion La Salle placed as the runner-up with 70 points, followed by Richmond who placed third with a team score of 125.
Of the 140 runners, sophomore Anna Pavone was Temple's second-best finisher with her time of 18:56.5 in the championship race on Saturday morning. Placing 40th overall, she cut her placement from last year's A-10 Championship 5k run in half.
Rounding out the top five for Temple was sophomore Chelsea Carleton (19:56.6), junior Lauren Holguin (21:00.4) and senior Dierdre MacFarlane (21:02.0).
Temple will now prepare for its race on Nov. 9 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, which will be held by Penn State.
