Four Owls Earn National Honors

Owls Defeated USF in BIG EAST Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Several Temple Owls earned various national honors following their 37-28 win over South Florida in the BIG EAST opener on Saturday.
 
Senior RB Montel Harris (Jacksonville, Fla.) earned BIG EAST Helmet Stickers from ESPN.  The transfer recorded his first 100-yard performance with the Owls, leading the rushers with 133 yards and two touchdowns.  He leads the nation with 23 total 100-yard games in his career.
 
Junior TE Cody Booth (Millersville, Pa.) and true freshman LB Tyler Matakevich (Stratford, Conn.) were named national Honorable Mention Player of the Week at their respective positions by the College Football Performance Awards. 
 
Booth scored his first career touchdown with a nine-yard reception in the third quarter. He led the Owls in receiving with three catches for 39 yards.
 
Matakevich, who started his first collegiate game, led the Owls with a career-high 15 tackles, including a career-high 12 solo stops and two TFL.
 
Junior QB Chris Coyer (Oak Hill, Va.) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Making his eighth consecutive start under center, Coyer went 16-of-20 for 167 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
 
Temple (2-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) travels to Connecticut (3-3, 0-1) on Oct. 13 for a 1 p.m. game.  ESPN3 will broadcast the game online.
