BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Holding Bowling Green without a field goal over a nine-minute stretch in the second half, Temple women's basketball surged ahead for good and came away with a 70-56 win on the road against the Falcons (3-3). The Owls (4-2) got career-highs from freshman Sally Kabengano with 17 points and sophomore Rateska Brown with 15 points.
Brown hit 3-of-6 from behind the arc to also record a career-high in three-pointers, and Kabengano added three blocks to her 17-point performance. Victoria Macaulay also scored in double figures for the Owls with 12 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and leading all players with three steals.
Tyonna Williams dished a game-high five assists, and Natasha Thames led all players with nine rebounds. The Owls displayed their best shooting of the season so far, hitting 53.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range.
After three early ties in the contest, Bowling Green held a slim lead for most of the first half. The margin was never larger than five, 16-11, after which May Dayan and Kabengano hit back-to-back shots to get the Owls within one at the midway point of the half.
Kabengano hit a trey to tie the game for a fourth time at 18-18 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, and Dayan later gave Temple its first lead of the contest, 23-21 with a layup at 3:27.
Dayan's bucket was early in a 9-2 Temple run to close out the first half, giving the Owls a 29-23 lead at the break. Temple hit the final three buckets of the period, with two of those from Kabengano who led all scorers with 11 points at halftime.
The Owls gave up a pair of treys early in the second half, but never relinquished the lead. Temple hit six of its first nine shots on their own end in the first five minutes, and continued shooting well to surge ahead.
Brown scored eight points and Macaulay scored six in a 16-3 run that gave the Owls their largest lead of the game, 51-37 with 11 and a half minutes remaining. Brown scored all eight in a row, including a pair of treys to reach double figures in scoring.
The Owls held the Falcons scoreless for over seven minutes and held them without a field goal for more than nine.
Brown hit a third trey down the stretch, and Erica Covile hit a pair of buckets to keep the lead in double digits.
Bowling Green got hot again from behind the arc with a pair of treys in the final 1:30, but never narrowed the gap to fewer than 13 points. The Owls, who had struggled at the line most of the game, hit 5-of-6 in the final minute to thwart any hopes of a comeback for the Falcons.
The Owls are back home for their next game for the final time in the 2012 calendar year, taking on Syracuse this coming Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall.
