PHILADELPHIA –
The Temple men's basketball team will look to open a season at 5-0 for the first time in a quarter century when the Owls host Wagner Saturday afternoon  at the Liacouras Center.  Tip time is 2:00 p.m. with the game being videostreamed on OwlAccess and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.

The last Temple team to start a season with five consecutive wins was the heralded 1987-88 team.  That squad, arguably one of the best to ever don the Cherry and White, won its first 14 games en route to a 32-2 record and #1 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. Coached by Hall of Famer John Chaney, the '87-88 squad advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, one of five Chaney-coached teams to accomplish the feat.

This year's Owls (4-0), under the direction of Fran Dunphy, notched their fourth straight win Wednesday with a 54-39 decision at Buffalo,  It marked only the second time Dunphy's charges have held an opponent under 40 points in his seven years at the helm.

Temple features a balanced offense in '12-13 led by senior swingman Scootie Randall (17.3ppg.,6.8 rpg.).  Senior guard Khalif Wyatt (13.0 ppg.) and sophomore forward Anthony Lee (12.0 ppg.) also average double figures with Lee topping the squad in rebounds (8.8 rpg.) and the Atlantic 10 Conference in shooting (18-25, .720).

Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.5 ppg.) and sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.0 ppg.) round out the starting five while graduate students Jake O'Brien (6.3 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (4.8 ppg.) along with junior Dalton Pepper (2.5 ppg.) come off the bench for double-figure minutes.  Freshman Quenton DeCosey (2.5 ppg.) looks to be vying to make it a nine-man rotation following an eight-point performance in the Buffalo win.

Wagner, under the direction of first-year coach Bashir Mason, is coming off a thrilling 48-42 overtime win against Princeton Wednesday in the team's home opener. The Seahawks, 2-3 overall, are led by senior guard Jonathon Williams.  Wagner's lone player averaging double-figures, Williams is scoring at an 18.0 clip while also topping the team in rebounding (7.8 rpg.).

This is the first meeting between Temple and the Staten Island-based school.
