Temple’s Matt Brown Named BIG EAST Specialist of the Week

Owls Host Cincinnati This Week
PROVIDENCE – Temple senior RB Matt Brown (Baltimore, Md.) has been named the BIG EAST Specialist of the Week, the Conference announced on Monday.
At No. 12/10 Louisville, Brown had a 93-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff return to put the Owls up 7-0. It marked the second KOR touchdown of his career and his first this season. Brown previously had a 100-yard touchdown kickoff return against Kent State in 2011.
Brown finished the game against the Cardinals with a single-game record 227 kickoff return yards on seven returns.
He also returned two punts for 39 yards, including a 30-yard return.
After eight games, Brown has 28 kickoff returns for 712 yards and 12 punt returns for 191 yards. He is the Owl leader in all-purpose yardage with 1,200 yards, averaging a BIG EAST best 150.0 yards per game.
Nationally, Brown ranks No. 5 in punt returns (15.92), No. 18 in all-purpose running (150.00), and No. 34 in kickoff returns (25.43) this week.
Brown was also honored with National Kickoff Returner of the Week honors by the College Football Performance Awards on Sunday.
The BIG EAST honor is the first for Brown this season and fifth for an Owl player. Senior PK/P Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) has earned Specialist of the Week honors three times, while senior RB Montel Harris (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the Offensive POW earlier this fall.
Temple (3-5, 2-3 BIG EAST) hosts Cincinnati (6-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) on Nov. 10 at Noon at Lincoln Financial Field. The BIG EAST Network will televise the game.
