Men's Basketball Hosts Towson Wednesday on Liacouras Center Anniversary Night

Coming off its first loss of the season, albeit to #2/2 Duke, the Temple men's basketball team returns to the hardwood Wednesday night as the Owls (6-1) host Towson (4-5) in the first of three straight games at the Liacouras Center which is celebrating its 15th-year Anniversary as Temple's home court.  To commemorate the occasion, the first 1500 fans entering the building will receive Liacouras Center tee-shirts. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. and will be video-streamed on OwlAccess and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT. 

Temple, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Fran Dunphy, is led be the play of senior guards Scootie Randall (15.1 pg.) and Khalif Wyatt.  Besides topping the team in scoring, Randall also leads the Cherry and White in rebounding (7.1 rpg.), three-pointers (15) and minutes played (35.7 mpg.). Wyatt (13.9 ppg.) tops Temple and ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference in assists, averaging 4.6 per game.

Sophomore forward Anthony Lee (10.6 ppg., 6.7 rpg.) is the only other Owl averaging double figures while ranking third in the A10 in field goal percentage (.612).  Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (8.4 ppg., 5.6 rpg.) is tied for eighth in the conference in blocks (1.7 bpg.) while sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.4 ppg.) rounds out the TU starting five.

Graduate students Jake O'Brien (6.6 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (4.9 ppg.) along with junior Dalton Pepper (2.3 ppg.) give Dunphy solid veterans off the bench. Freshman Quenton DeCosey (4.6 ppg.), coming off a career-best 13 points against Duke, is starting to earn more minutes.

Towson, under the direction of second-year head coach Pat Skerry, is coming off a near-upset at #15/23 Georgetown Saturday.  The Tigers put a scare into the heavily-favored Hoyas before falling 46-40. 

Jerrelle Benimon has been Towson's go-to player this season.  The junior forward leads the Tigers in scoring (15.7 ppg.), rebounding (10.6 rpg.), blocks (14), field goal percentage (.529) and minutes played (33.9 mpg.).  Freshman guard Jerome Hairston (9.8 ppg.) runs the offense and tops the team in assists (23) and steals (19).  Junior guard Mike Burwell (9.2 ppg.), junior Marcus Damas (8.3 ppg.) and graduate student Bilal Dixon (7.1 ppg., 6.8 rpg.) round out the Tiger starters.

Temple has won both meetings with Towson, the last coming on December 6, 2007, a 69-46 Owl victory.
