BIG EAST Announces 2013 Football Opponents
12.11.12 | Football
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2013 football opponents and game sites on Tuesday, the conference's first in its new 12-team, two division format.
As members of the West Division beginning in 2013, the Temple Owls will host Boise State, Central Florida, Connecticut, and Houston in home games at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Owls will travel to Memphis, Rutgers, San Diego State, and Southern Methodist.
The BIG EAST will announce exact dates by March 1.
In non-conference play, Temple opens the 2013 season at No. 1 Notre Dame on August 31. The Owls host Fordham (Sept. 14) and Army (Oct. 19) at home, while visiting Idaho (Sept. 28).
The conference schedule will produce 48 regular-season games – the most in BIG EAST history – with each of the 12 teams playing eight league contests. The 2013 season will include two divisions of six teams, in which teams will play each of the other five schools in its division along with three schools from the other division.
The Conference's East Division will consist of Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers, and South Florida.
The West Division consists of Boise State, Houston, Memphis, San Diego State, SMU, and Temple.
“Our new home and away matchups for football in 2013 will create an exciting, competitive, and compelling season, culminating in our first-ever BIG EAST Championship Game,” said Commissioner Mike Aresco. “I know that our BIG EAST coaches, student-athletes, and fans have been looking forward both to the renewal of traditional rivalries and to great matchups with our newcomers. With games played in some of the nation's most dynamic college football markets and biggest media centers, we are expecting a season of intense, high-caliber football played on a national stage.”
The East and West division winners, determined by final conference record, will meet in the first BIG EAST Football Championship Game, which will be played at the home site of one of the division winners.
Information on 2013 season tickets is available by contacting the Temple Athletics Ticket Sales Office at 215-204-8499 or via email at tixsales@temple.edu.
