College Sports Madness Honors Seven Temple Owls

PHILADELPHIA – The staff at College Sports Madness has recognized seven Temple football players with 10 honors as part of its 2012 BIG EAST All-Conference Teams.
Linebacker Tyler Matakevich (Stratford, Conn.) was named the Freshman of the Year as well as a second-team All-BIG EAST selection.
Earning first team All-Conference honors were senior RB Montel Harris (Jacksonville, Fla.), senior Matt Brown (Baltimore, Md.) at kickoff returner, and senior Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) at punter.
Second-team accolades went to McManus at placekicker, Brown at punt return, senior DL John Youboty (Houston, Texas), and Matakevich.
Named to the third-team were senior OL Martin Wallace (New York, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman LB Nate D. Smith (Highland Park, N.J.) who played in all 11 games with 10 starts, one of just nine redshirt freshmen to see game action.
Temple (4-7 overall, 2-5 BIG EAST) returned to BIG EAST Conference play in football in 2012 for the first time since 2004. The Owls' other sports begin BIG EAST play during the 2013-14 academic year, marking the first time in school history that all TU sports will play in one conference.
Temple football opens the 2013 season on August 31 at No. 1 Notre Dame.
