Owls fall to Chanticleers for the second time this weekend

CONWAY, S.C. - Ali Robinson and Christina Sykora each recorded one hit in Temple softball's final game of the Chanticleer Challenge on Sunday, February 26, but that was all the offense the team could manage in a 7-0 loss to host team Coastal Carolina. It was TU's second defeat to the Chanticleers this season and drops the squad to 2-3 on the year.

The Owls allowed three home runs, including Kory Hayden's fifth of the season, as she knocked the ball out of left field, which scored Jazmin Daigle and Brooke Donovan to give the hosts a 3-0 lead in the third.

Coastal carried the momentum into the fourth inning as Jessie Winans hit her second home run of the year to put the Chanticleers ahead by four. Five batters later, Pineda hit another home run that drove in Hayden and Brooke Donovan to make it a 7-0 game.

Temple brought Jessica Mahoney in to pitch following the seven runs and the freshman settled down the offense, giving up three hits during the 2.1 innings she pitched.

Kiana Quolas earned the win on the mound following six innings pitched, in which she gave up just two hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Brooklin White took the loss for the Owls after 3.2 innings pitched. White gave up five hits, seven runs, seven walks and struck out four.

Temple is back in action on March 2 with its first game of the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla. against Purdue at 12:15 p.m.
