Batey, Rozite and Osei Pick Up Singles Wins
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team wrapped up a five-match road trip at #54 Penn State on Wednesday, going up against a nationally ranked opponent for the third time on the trip. The Owls narrowly dropped a 4-3 decision to the Nittany Lions.
The match began with PSU taking wins at the first and third doubles bouts to earn the point. Yana Mavrina and Agnese Rozite salvaged a doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Carmen Sandor and Fernanda Perrotta at No. 2.
Penn State jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins at the sixth and second singles slots. Rozite got the Owls on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Perrotta at number four. But #55 Petra Januskova quickly halted any possible Temple comeback with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mavrina at No. 1.
Maame Ama Osei got her win and another Temple point by way of injury default at No. 5. Jordan Batey rounded out the scoring winning her fourth straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Sandor at the third flight.
TU (5-8) plays host to Atlantic 10 rival Xavier in a 5 p.m. match being held in Elkins Park, Pa. on Saturday.
