Owl sharpshooter loses by one-point to Northwestern's Joihn Shurna

NEW ORLEANS - Temple University senior guard Juan Fernandez finished second at the 2012 State Farm College 3-Point Championships Thursday night at Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University.

Fernandez, who ended his career second on Temple's alltime three-point list (.402, 207-515), had 20 points in the final round with John Shurna of Northwestern making his final seven shots to finish with 21 points. Fernandez, whose parents traveled from Argentina for the contest, hit 18 points in the first round, the best among all eight competitors. He then made 19 points in the second round, one behind Shurna, to advance to the final.

Fernandez will join backcourt mate Ramone Moore in Friday night's NABC All-Star game. That game will be televised on TruTV Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
