Former DiPietro pupil now coaching alongside mentor

PHILADELPHIA – Temple's head softball coach, Joe DiPietro, has announced the addition of Chrissy Focht to the coaching staff for the remainder of the 2012 season. Focht will be responsible for coaching the pitchers.

A former pitcher herself, Focht brings over 13 years of coaching experience to the Owls' program. Before getting into the coaching ranks, however, she played four years (1993-97) at Camden Catholic High School, with DiPietro as her coach, and extended her career to Rutgers-Camden for two collegiate seasons (1998-99).

After a shoulder injury cut her college career short, Focht went back to Camden Catholic to serve as the JV coach under DiPietro. In 2007, she was named the varsity head coach, and led her team to an undefeated conference championship in 2008.

In addition to her high school coaching resume, Focht was the head coach and manager of the Outlaws Silver team from 1999-2008. She has also been a private pitching instructor with Hit Doctor Baseball and Softball Academy since 2003.

"I've known Chrissy for a really long time since I coached her in high school and she also served as my JV coach at Camden Catholic,” said DiPietro. “She will be a great asset to our pitchers while also helping with recruiting and all other areas."

Temple is 17-16 (5-3 A-10) and travels to Dayton this weekend for two critical Atlantic 10 games against the Flyers on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for Friday's game is at 3 p.m., while Saturday's game begins with a noon opening pitch.
