Lauren Caminiti named to A-10 Second Team; Molly Seefried to A-10 All-Rookie Team
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Five members of Temple lacrosse are among those receiving Atlantic 10 postseason honors, as announced today by the league office. Highlighting the Owls' award-winners is Stephanie Markunas, who was named to the A-10 First Team.
Lauren Caminiti was named to the A-10 Second Team for her consistent play on defense all season, and freshman Molly Seefried was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team after a strong debut season.
Two Owls also earned accolades for a combination of athletic and academic performances, as Allison McWilliams and Missy Schweitzer were both named to the A-10 All-Academic Team. Schweitzer has also been named to the A-10 Academic Team in each of the last two seasons, while it is the first honor for McWilliams.
Massachusetts' Katie Ferris, Richmond's Mary Flowers and Liz Walker of Duquesne were selected for the A-10's Offensive Player, Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Year awards, respectively. Amanda Kidder of Duquesne was also named Rookie of the Year while UMass coach Angela McMahon garnered Coach of the Year honors.
Markunas finished the season with 30 goals and 25 assists for a team-best 55 total points. Her 25 assists tie for ninth all-time in a single season at Temple, while her 47 draw controls rank sixth all-time in a single season.
Caminiti, who started in all 17 games this season, tied for third on the team with 22 ground balls and finished second on the team with nine caused turnovers. Seefried played in 15 games in her debut season at Temple, scoring twice.
McWilliams and Schweitzer were both named to Temple's Trustee Ten this week at the annual Breakfast of Champions for having two of the top 10 GPA's among all student-athletes in the department. Schweitzer has a 3.86 GPA as a kinesiology major, and ranked fifth on the team this year with 20 goals. McWilliams, a secondary education and English major, has a GPA of 3.84.
