Third Owl Honored
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University senior OL Pat Boyle (Towson, Md.) was honored Wednesday as a member of the 2012 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame's (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society which is comprised of college football players from all divisions who maintained a 3.2 GPA or better.
A total of 727 players from 241 schools nationally qualified for membership in 2012, the society's sixth year. Area inductees were honored at a dinner last night at Villanova University.
A 2011 first-team All-MAC honoree, Boyle was cited on the 2012 and 2011 Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team. Last month he was named a co-recipient of the Athletic Department's PNC Male Student-Athlete of Year, sharing the honor with basketball's Juan Fernandez. A 2011 ECAC All-Star and two-year starter, Boyle started all 13 games at left tackle last fall, helping Temple to the most rushing touchdowns and yards in a season. The recipient of the 2011 Owl Club Academic Award, he played in the inaugural AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January. The psychology major was part of the winningest Senior Class in Temple football history.
Boyle signed a rookie free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in April.
Boyle is the third Owl to receive NFF Hampshire Honor Society recognition. In 2011, Eli Joseph (Hartford, Conn.) was honored, while DB Jaiqauwn Jarrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, was honored in 2010.
Temple opens the 2012 season with Villanova in the fourth annual Mayor's Cup, sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts, on Friday, August 31 at Lincoln Financial Field.
Temple football season tickets are on sale now for as low as $99 and can be purchased by calling the Temple Ticket Sales Office at 215-204-8499 or visit www.OwlsTix.com.
