Three Players Named to Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams

Mavrina tabbed first-team selection; Batey and Doms named to second team
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Yana Mavrina (Yaroslavl, Russia) has been named to the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference First Team in voting conducted among the conference head coaches. In the same vote, sophomores Jordan Batey (Atlanta, Ga.) and Alicia Doms (Barcelona) were named members of the A-10 All-Conference Second Team.
Richmond's Joanna Matuszczyk was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Most Outstanding Performer, while fellow Spider Melissa Kandinata was tabbed Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. Judy Dixon of Massachusetts was honored as Coach of the Year.
The Spider duo helped pace Richmond to its fourth-straight A-10 title and conference-record ninth crown in the last 10 years, earning its 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Dixon, the winningest tennis coach in Massachusetts history, guided the Minutewomen to the top seed in the 2012 A-10 Women's Tennis Championship with an impressive 14-7 record during the regular season. Dixon's squad ad¬vanced to the finals of the event, before narrowly falling to three-time defending championship Richmond, 4-3. Under the direction of the 18-year veteran head coach, UMass went 7-2 against A-10 foes this season, including victories over Temple, Saint Joseph's, Duquesne, Rhode Island and Charlotte.
Mavrina, who was a second-team selection a year ago, finished the season with a 23-13 overall singles record that included a 14-7 dual record and a 6-0 mark against Atlantic 10 teams. The sophomore played all of her dual matches at No. 1 and finished the year winning eight of her final 11 matches. In doubles action, Mavrina posted a 15-14 record with her most success at No. 3, going 7-1. She teamed up with Agnese Rozite to go 6-1 at the third flight over the final seven matches of the season.
Joining Mavrina, Matuszczyk and Kandinata on the All-Conference first team are Charlotte's Alexandra Zinn; Duquesne's Vanessa Steiner; Amy Simidian of Fordham; GW's Jacqueline Corba; Sonia Bokhari of Massachusetts; Helen Cunningham of Richmond; Saint Joseph's Casey Robinson; Jenny Nalepa of Saint Louis; and Katie Pleiman of Xavier.
Batey also reached the 20-win plateau in singles play this year, going 21-13 overall and 15-9 in dual match play with a 6-1 record against league opponents. It is the second-straight season Batey has surpassed 20 singles wins after going 23-5 a year ago. This season, she played the majority of her singles matches at No. 3, going 8-3. In doubles play, Batey went 12-12 playing the majority of her matches with Doms between the second and third flights.
Doms floated between the first, second and third singles flights throughout the year, going 15-16 overall. She saw most of her action at No. 2, however, going 6-6. The lefty went 15-12 in doubles action, pairing up with four different teammates throughout the season, including a 10-5 record in dual matches with Batey.
The All-Conference second-team consists of Batey and Doms, along with Charlotte's Andrea Rivera and Natsuko Takayanagi; Leah Pascarella of George Washington; UMass's Yuliana Motyl and Julia Comas; Rhode Island's Pam Emery; Richmond's Elizabeth Sims; Manuela Marin of St. Bonaventure; Stephanie Hollis of Saint Louis; and Daniella Patton of Xavier.
The Academic All-Conference team is comprised of Zinn, Rhode Island's Kirsten and Tristany Leikem, Sims, Mia Elmore of Saint Louis, and Pleiman.
