Six Owls earn Academic Honor Roll distinction
GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Temple lacrosse is one of 42 Division I teams to be recognized as an Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Owls have now earned Academic Squad distinction for the sixth straight year. In addition, six of the student-athletes on the team were among the 173 to be named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
The six Owls to be recognized by the IWLCA were Tess Bishop (Advertising), Nina Falcone (Speech Language Hearing Science), Keelin Hood (Early Childhood Education), Allison McWilliams (Secondary Education, English), Jackie Mercer (Art) and Missy Schweitzer (Physical Health Education). Only student-athletes with at least a junior status academically in 2011-12 were eligible for the Honor Roll.
The IWLCA recognized 42 teams for the 2011-12 school year for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The 25 Temple lacrosse student-athletes actually posted an oustanding collective grade-point-average of 3.52 for the spring of 2012, which was also the team's competition season. The GPA, which was the highest semester GPA in the tenure of sixth-year head coach Bonnie Rosen, included six student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.9 and one with a 4.0.
Two members of the team, seniors McWilliams and Schweitzer, were honored at Temple's annual Breakfast of Champions as members of the Trustee Ten. That honor goes to the 10 student-athletes who have the highest GPA's in the entire department. Schweitzer, a kinesiology major, received recognition for her 3.86 GPA, while McWilliams, a secondary education and English major, was honored for having a 3.84 GPA.
The Breakfast of Champions, held this year on April 25, included grades only up through the fall semester.
At the Breakfast of Champions, thirteen members of the team were named to the Director's Honor Roll for having a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49: Lauren Caminiti, Megan Chlada, Karly Cohen, Carli Fitzgerald, Rachel Hall, Macie Hauck, Jaqi Kakalecik, Sofie Kennedy, Stephany Parcell, Molly Seefried, Charlotte Swavola, Kelly Syphard and Kelsey Zenuk.
Along with McWilliams and Schweitzer, six other members of the team were named to the President's Honor Roll for having a GPA above 3.5: Bishop, Lea Britton, Falcone, Colleen Guinan, Hood and Mercer.
