Owls will also host the Temple Invitational this weekend

PHILADELPHIA - After three weekends on the road, the home opener has nearly arrived for Temple volleyball as the Owls get set to face NJIT (5-5) in McGonigle Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Temple (6-4) is coming off another successful weekend of action, finishing as runner-up at the Miami (OH) Invitational.

Live stats for Wednesday's match will be available HERE, and a live webcast of the match will be available to subscribers HERE.

With a 6-4 overall record, Temple is enjoying its best start to a season since 2002, a year which saw the Owls go 29-7, win the A-10 and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. There has been individual success as well, as the Owls have earned five All-Tournament awards so far. Elyse Burkert, the reigning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, was named to All-Tournament Teams at Miami and South Carolina. Burkert's numbers have not only been impressive within the conference, but with 4.60 kills per set she currently ranks in a tie for 10th among all players in NCAA Division I.

Chelsea Tupuola was named the MVP of the Big 5 Tournament on Sept. 1, and this past weekend was named to the All-Tournament Team yet again at Miami. With 4.86 digs per set, Tupuola ranks second in the A-10. Tiffany Connatser also earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Big 5 Tournament, and Connatser currently ranks 31st in the nation in assists per set at 11.11.

As a team, defense has been key to Temple's success. The Owls' 17.46 digs per set rank 22nd among all NCAA Division I teams, and first in the Atlantic 10.

NJIT comes into Wednesday's match with a record of 5-5 after sweeping the competition at last weekend's Fordham Tournament. The Highlanders took the team title with wins over Stony Brook, Cornell and Fordham. Senior outsdie hitter Renata Pandolfo was named Tournament MVP, and senior OH Janet Snell also earned All-Tournament Team honors.

The meeting between Temple and NJIT will be the first in program history.
