Softball Picked Fifth in Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll

Owls looking for first conference title since 2004

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Temple softball team has been picked to finish fifth in 2013 in the 12 team Atlantic 10 conference. The voting, conducted by the league's head coaches, was announced today by the league office. The Owls, who posted a 27-22 overall record and 12-6 mark in A-10 play a year ago, finished last season in sixth place with their second-straight appearance in the conference tournament.

Reigning champion Massachusetts has been predicted to win the 2013 A-10 Championship once again after finishing last season with an overall record of 38-13 and a perfect conference record of 19-0. UMass has won the league title 17 out of the last 20

Fordham placed second in the poll, followed by A-10 tournament runner-up George Washington in the third spot. Saint Joseph's was selected fourth, just ahead of Temple, followed by Charlotte (sixth), Butler (seventh), Saint Louis (eighth), Dayton (ninth), St. Bonaventure (10th), Rhode Island (11th), and La Salle (12th).

The 2013 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship will be held on May 8-11 at the UMass softball complex in Amherst, Mass.
