Women's Tennis Picked Fourth in Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll

Owls vie for title in final season of A-10
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Temple women's tennis team has been selected to finish fourth in the 16-team Atlantic 10 women's tennis conference. The 2013 season marks the final season for the Owls in the A-10 as the team moves to the BIG EAST Conference in 2013-14.
In its first season in the A-10, the VCU Rams team has been selected to win the 2013 title, according to a vote conducted among the league's head coaches. The Rams, winners of two of the last three of their former conference championships (2010, 2012), made their 13th NCAA tournament appearance last spring and picked up 15 first-place votes in the league's preseason poll.
Richmond, which claimed its fourth straight A-10 title in 2012, was picked second and received one first-place vote. The Spiders look to make their 12th straight NCAA appearance this spring. Massachusetts, the top seed and runner-up in last year's championship, is predicted to place third at this year's event under 2012 Coach of the Year, Judy Dixon.
Temple, which lost in the semifinals to Massachusetts (4-3) in the 2012 tournament, was picked to finish fourth. TU posted a 14-11 record through the regular-season last spring, including a 6-1 record in A-10 play. Temple's only regular-season conference loss came in the form of a 4-3 decision against Massachusetts early in the season. The Cherry & White ended the year winning seven of their last nine matches, including three 7-0 decisions and four wins over conference foes.
Charlotte was tabbed to finish fifth, followed by Xavier (sixth) and George Washington (seventh). The Billikens were picked to place eighth, while Fordham (ninth), Duquesne (10th), Rhode Island (11th), Butler (12th), Saint Joseph's (13th), Dayton (14th), St. Bonaventure (15th) and La Salle (16th) round out the 16 league teams.
The 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis tournament will be held April 18-21 at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
