Former Football Player Lafton Thompson Passes Away

PHILADELPHIA – Former Temple safety Lafton Thompson (1999-02) passed away on Monday afternoon at his home in Norristown after a two-and-half-year battle with cancer. He was 34.
A four-year letterwinner under coach Bobby Wallace, Thompson played in 41 games. He finished his career with 183 tackles. 21.5 TFL, nine break-ups, five interceptions, and three forced fumbles. The sociology major left college 12 credits shy of a degree to pursue a career in the NFL. He suffered a career-ending injury at a pre-draft combine.
Thompson was two-sport athlete at Norristown Area High School (1993-96). He played tailback and defensive end, earning All-Suburban One League honors on defense. In basketball, Thompson was a starter on the varsity team as a freshman and amassed 1,000 career points by the end of his junior year. He earned first-team Times-Herald All-Area and All-League honors as a senior.
Thompson attended Hargrave Academy for one year before enrolling at Temple.
Born August 20, 1979, Thompson is survived by two children, Kendal (8) and Lance (2). Donations are being accepted by the Lafton Thompson Foundation (416 East Marshall Street, Norristown, PA 19401).
