Pavone and Dubrow Record Top-5 Finishes for Women's Cross Country at the Leopard Invitational
10.19.13 | Women's Cross Country
EASTON, Pa. - Senior Anna Pavone and junior Jenna Dubrow finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, to lead Temple women's cross country at the Leopard Invitational on Saturday. As a team, the Owls placed ninth of 14 teams at the meet, hosted by Lafayette University.
"Anna and Jenna worked together well and got out like they needed to," said James Snyder, Temple's assistant coach in charge of the distance runners. "They executed the way we wanted them to and were right where they needed to be. It was a good race."Â
The meet was Temple's final competition before the American Athletic Conference Championships, which are set for Nov. 2 at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Conn.
"This race was a smaller field than our last one and was similar to what we'll see in two weeks," said Snyder, "so we wanted to have that intimate setting that mirrors what we'll be seeing at the conference meet. It was a much more difficult course than Lehigh, and we performed head and shoulders above where we were two weeks ago. We're showing what we are as a program heading into the bigger meets."
Pavone's time was 22:29.90, with Dubrow finishing less than a second later in 22:30.74. Gwen Porter and Andrea Mathis also placed in the top 100 for the Owls, with Porter coming in 75th with a time of 24:29.33 and Mathis placing 95th in 25:01.49.
