MADISON, Conn. - Senior Anna Pavone and junior Jenna Dubrow placed 18th and 23rd, respectively, at the first-ever American Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships. As a team, the Owls placed eighth out of 10.
"I'm pleased with Anna and Jenna and the way they competed today," said assistant coach James Snyder who works with Temple's distance runners. "This was a building step, and this is where we are right now. This whole year is a process of feeling things out, and we have room to grow, no doubt. This was new competition and better competition than we're used to, and we just need to keep getting better."
The field for the American was a small one overall, less than half the size of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships, but both of Temple's top runners place higher than they did at that meet a year ago.
Pavone ran the 6k race in a time of 21:33.89, while Dubrow was close behind in 21:48.71. Also finishing in the top 50 for the Owls was sophomore Janie Augustyn, who placed 47th with a time of 23:21.61.
UCF's Anna-Marie Blaney won the race in 20:19.45, and SMU was the top team finisher with all five of their scoring runners placing in the top 10.
