– Members of the Temple University football team took time to make several special deliveries on Thursday in anticipation of next week's Thanksgiving celebration.

Head coach Matt Rhule and players— senior WR Ryan Alderman, senior OL Cody Booth, senior HB Chris Coyer, senior DB Zamel Johnson, junior TE Jaimen Newman, senior TE Chris Parthemore, senior OL Pete White, senior OL Jeff Whittingham— delivered boxes and bags of collected canned food items to the Bethesda Project (722 North Broad Street, one of Bethesda Project's 12 residences and shelters).

"Through the collective efforts of our student-athletes, managers, trainers, coaches, and all of the employees of Edberg-Olson Hall, Temple football proudly delivered food to both the Bethesda Project and St. John's Hospice here in our community," Rhule said.  "We are inspired by the impact that our student-athletes are having in the community. We are hopeful that we can bring both nourishment and joy to more than 400 people this Thanksgiving season here in the City of Philadelphia."

The Owl players, coaches, and staff have been collecting canned food items the last two weeks during their seventh annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to aid homeless and formerly homeless men and women through the Bethesda Project. Additional contributions came from the players' parents and members of the media.

Then the entourage stopped by St. John's Hospice (1221 Race Street). There the players unloaded 36 full turkey dinners, including a 10-12 lb. Butterball turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, gravy, and pumpkin pie. The dinners were made possible through monetary donations. All players on the team donated their per diem to the cause.

Additionally, senior captain Ryan Alderman presented each shelter a block of tickets for Saturday night's game.

This week Temple (1-9, 0-6 American) hosts Connecticut (0-9, 0-5 American) in its home season finale on Nov. 23.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.  The Senior Class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
