Men's Tennis Spends the Day at Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission

11.5.13 | Men's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – For the third consecutive year, the Temple men's tennis team spent a Saturday volunteering at Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission, serving meals to Philadelphia's hurting, hungry and homeless. The Owls participated at the mission this past Saturday, November 2.

The Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission has been in operation since 1878. The founders of the Sunday Breakfast Association had a simple goal: to provide a breakfast every Sunday for the poor and to bring them under Christian influence. Well known businessmen John Wanamaker (Wanamaker's Department Store), John B. Stetson (Stetson Hat Co.), W. Atlee Burpee (Burpee Seed Co.), and former governor James Pollock served as the original trustees.

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission provides many services that meet the basic needs of the Philadelphia area's homeless population, including three meals, every day of the year. Other services offered include emergency shelter, clothing exchange, chapel, and recovery programs for both men and women.
