12.2.13 | Football

PHILADELPHIA (12/2/13) - This past Saturday saw the Temple offense explode for 41 points and 534 yards of total offense, both the second highest totals on the season. The result was the Owls first win on the road as well as first win in the newly formed American Athletic Conference.

P.J. Walker led the onslaught for the Owls totaling 387 yards on offense. He finished the day going 20-32 for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 59 yards rushing on 11 carries. Walker had touchdown passes of 1, 11 and 21 yards to sophomore WR Robby Anderson and also a 75-yard TD toss to senior TE Chris Coyer.

For his efforts against Memphis, Walker was named the American Athletic Offensive Player of the Week. On the season, Walker finished with passing totals of 2,084 yards and 20 TD's with a completion percentage of 60.8 percent. The 2,084 yards ties the record for the fourth highest passing yards in a single season. Walker tied Henry Burris who threw for 2,084 yards in 1996. Walker also finished just two touchdowns shy of the all-time single season passing touchdown record of 22 by Brian Broomell in 1979.

Walker was also named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, and adding to his collection of awards this week, Walker was named a Manning Award 'Star of the Week,' sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Two recipients of Walker's passes also received recognition for their outstanding play against Memphis.

Senior TE Chris Coyer, playing his last game for the Cherry and White, was named the National Tight End of the Week by College Football Performance Awards. Coyer saved his best game for his last, finishing the day with three receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown, with the touchdown coming off a career long 75-yard catch and run.

On the receiving end of three of Walker's four touchdown passes was Robby Anderson, who totaled 96 yards by way of 7 catches. Anderson's performance earned him Honorable Mention Player of the Week Honors by the American Athletic Conference.

Anderson finishes the year with 44 receptions for 791 yards and 9 touchdowns. All nine touchdowns came within the last five games, and Anderson finishes the year with the 5th best receiving year in Temple history. He also is already in the Top 10 for receiving touchdowns in school history.
