Men's Basketball Opens New Era at Rutgers on New Year's Night

PISCATAWAY, NJ - It will be a New Year and a New Era for Temple men's basketball Wednesday as for the first time in 30 years the Owls will play a conference game in a new league when TU tips off at Rutgers (8:00 p.m./ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT). It will serve as the inaugural game in the American Athletic Conference for both teams.
• The Owls are coming off their first 100-point game since 2007 as TU defeated LIU Brooklyn 101-65 at the Barclays Center on Dec. 21.
• Dalton Pepper, who earned his third Big 5 Player of the Week honor, led the way with career highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds for his first-ever double-double.
• Will Cummings set a new career scoring high (23 pts) in the contest while Quenton DeCosey (19 pts) matched his high. The two guards are the only Owls to tally double figures in each of the first 10 games.
• TU has scored 80 or more points in five of the last six games.
• Temple and Rutgers are meeting for the 51st time, but the first since the 2006-07 season.
• The Owls won the most recent meeting, 77-54 at home on Nov. 29, 2006, giving then first-year head coach Fran Dunphy his first win at Temple.
• The teams last faced each other at Rutgers on Nov. 30, 2005, with the Scarlet Knights winning 67-53.
• Rutgers has won two straight, the last a 75-72 win over Army on Dec, 22 at the RAC.
• Myles Mack, one of two Scarlet Knights to start every game, leads RU with a 16.5 scoring average.
• The teams competed for 13 years (1982-95) as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
