2007 Drexel alum joins Owls coaching staff
PHILADELPHIA – Temple's head softball coach, Joe DiPietro, has announced the addition of Brianne Brown to the coaching staff for 2013. Brown joins the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Prior to joining the Owls, Brown was the head coach of the La Salle softball program for four seasons before resigning last May to pursue other opportunities. In 2008, she served as a graduate assistant coach under DiPietro, who was the Explorers head coach at the time, where her primary responsibility was working with the infielders and outfielders.
“Having Brianne is going to be a huge asset for us,” said DiPietro. “When she left La Salle, she wanted to keep her hand in the game a little bit. I offered her the opportunity to come here and be our volunteer and she jumped at it. I'm thrilled to have her. She's got four years of head coaching experience at the Division I level so it's only going to help us.”
Brown graduated from nearby Drexel University with a degree in corporate communication in 2007 where she was a standout third baseman for the Dragons. The two-year captain earned All-CAA honors as a senior and led all CAA third basemen in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage in her final season. She holds the current career mark for walks with 69 and graduated as the career home run leader with 10. Brown also ranks in Drexel's top 20 for career hits with 133. She earned MVP honors both her freshman and senior seasons.
Temple, which made its second-straight appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2012, will look to improve on its 27-22 (12-6 A-10) record from a season ago. The 2013 Owls get the season underway on February 22 at the Elon Invitational, squaring off against Hampton in a 6:45 p.m. game.
