Lacrosse Hosts Rutgers on Wednesday in a "Dedication Day" Game

PHILADELPHIA - Coming off a huge, 18-5 win over Niagara in the season-opener, Temple lacrosse will look to keep its successful start going on Wednesday, Feb. 20 against Rutgers. The game is set for 3:00 p.m. at Geasey Field, and is the second of four straight home games for the Owls to open the 2013 season. Each member of the team is dedicating the game to some important people in their lives, and those dedications can be seen by following the above link.
The series against the Scarlet Knights, also 1-0 so far, has been a heated one over the last couple seasons. Last year, Temple was down by five goals in the second half before roaring back to win the game, 12-11 on the road. In 2011 it was also a one-goal game, that time going the way of Rutgers, 11-10 at Geasey Field.
Seniors Kellee Pace and Charlotte Swavola scored three goals apiece to lead Temple in its win vs. Niagara this past Saturday. Among the 11 goal-scorers for Temple were four freshmen, getting on the scoreboard in the first game of their careers. Senior Stephany Parcell, sophomore Macie Hauck and freshman Summer Jaros scored two goals each, with Parcell also recording an assist. Senior Jackie Mercer tallied a goal and an assist in the win.
An impressive 23 players saw time on the field for the Owls, including all 10 freshman (out of 11) who are on the active roster for the season. Temple got 17 draw controls in the game to Niagara's seven, with five of those being recorded by Swavola.
Rutgers opened its season with a 15-5 win against Manhattan, getting five goals apiece from Stephanie Anderson and Katrina Martinelli. The Scarlet Knights finished at 9-7 last season and 4-4 in the BIG EAST.
