Leah Lucas Named Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Temple's Leah Lucas (Newbury, Calif./Thousand Oaks) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 10, 2013. It is the first honor of Lucas's career.
In a 3-2 weekend for the Owls, Lucas led the team with a .571 average. She collected a team-best eight hits in 14 at bats with seven RBI, a double and a homerun. The second baseman had at least one hit in all but one game and multiple hits in three contests.
A starter in all 14 games for Temple this season, Lucas is fourth on the squad with a .333 batting average. Her 14 hits are the third-most on the team, and three homeruns ties for the team lead.
The Owls are 5-9 after playing in three tournaments to open the season. The squad heads to Florida one more time on March 15-17 to take part in the City of Clearwater Spring Invitational. Play gets underway for the Cherry & White with an 11 a.m. game against Boston College on Friday.
