Ten Players Commit To Join Women's Soccer In 2013

PHILADELPHIA – During the National Signing Period, 10 players have signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the women's soccer team at Temple University for third-year head coach Matt Gwilliam beginning in the fall of 2013.
Joining a program that had the most freshmen on a Division I team in 2012, the 10 players include: Elaine Byerley, Jill DiBlasi, Emily Doherty, Morgan Elliott, Morgan Evans, Madison Hileman, Taylor Matsinger, Ingrid Mello, Megan Sullivan and Bryn Wassel.
"We are extremely excited to be welcoming our newest class of Owls to North Broad Street," Gwilliam said. "All of the student-athletes are not only exceptional soccer players, but outstanding young adults who will bring so much to the rebuilding of Temple Women's Soccer. We are adding new dimensions to our team with the attacking qualities of Taylor Matsinger, Megan Sullivan, Ingrid Mello, and Bryn Wassel. Our midfield will be further solidified with the additions of Elaine Byerley, Morgan Evans, and Jill DiBlasi. Morgan Elliott will be a welcomed addition to our established defensive corps and our goalkeeping position is further strengthened by Emily Doherty and Madison Hileman."
Elaine Byerley - Midfielder
Hometown: West Chester, Pa.
High School: Bishop Shanahan
Club Team: FC Delco
Serving as a captain during her senior year at Bishop Shanahan, Byerley led the team in goals and assists, making her the team's Most Valuable Player. The midfielder from West Chester, Pa. was also the runner-up for the sametitle for the Ches-Mont League. The Southeastern Pennsylvania First Team honoree was a four-year varsity starter at Shanahan, helping the team to the postseason in each of those seasons.
Byerley, who plays her club soccer for FC Delco, plans to major in Business at Temple.
Jill DiBlasi - Midfielder
Hometown: Atco, N.J.
High School: Hammonton
Club: Highland Wildcats
Scored a team-high 25 goals during her senior season, helping Hammonton go 18-4 and win the school's first-ever Atlantic League Championship. A year after being named to Cape Atlantic's second team, DiBlasi was included on the first team for her senior year effort along with being named the Atlantic City Press Player of the Year.
DiBlasi plays for the nationally-ranked Highland Wildcats and is yet to determine what she will major in at Temple
Emily Doherty - Goalkeeper
Hometown: Oceanside, N.Y.
High School: Oceanside
Club Team: Farmingdale
A four-year member of Oceanside's varsity team, Doherty will join the Owls after an impressive 2012 campaign, which resulted in her being honored with spots on the All-County, All-Conference and All-Class teams. Doherty, a goalkeeper, had seven shutouts last season and was the conference's leader in saves per game. While playing for her club team, the Farmingdale Force, she was named the NYS Region 1 Premier Goalkeeper in 2011 and 2012.
Doherty plans to major in Kinesiology while studying at Temple.
Morgan Elliott – Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Chester Springs, Pa.
High School: Downingtown East
Club: Penn Fusion
Coming off her senior season in which she was named to the Ches-Mont first team, Elliott will join the Owls with a District 1 and two Ches-Mont championships under her belt. Elliot served as the captain for her Downington East team last season and was selected first team all-area. As a member of the Lower Merion Heat, she won the 2009 State Cup Championship. Elliott, who will come to Temple undecided, has also played as a member of Penn Fusion and FC Europa Club.
Morgan Evans – Forward/Midfielder
Hometown: Blacksburg, Va.
High School: Blacksburg
Club Team: New River United Soccer Association
With her 2013 spring season yet to be played, Evans will join Temple in the fall with some very impressive credentials. Last season, Evans finished second in points on the team with 10 goals and 11 assists and helped set the team record for most goals in postseason play; Her explosiveness aided Blacksburg High School in winning the 2012 Ridge River District and Region IV Championships. In addition to being ranked No. 3 in the state of Virginia in the ESPN High School rankings, she earned all-district first team and all-region second team honors last spring for her junior season.
Madison Hileman – Goalkeeper
Hometown: Fleetwood, Pa.
High School: Fleetwood Area
Club Team: FC Delco

Hileman will join a Temple team that was ranked eighth in the nation in save percentage last season. Over the course of her high school career, she has displayed her dominance in between the goal posts, having 40 shutouts—15 of which came in her senior. In her four years, she also made 423 saves. Hileman, an intended secondary education major, is fresh off being named the Berks County Girls Soccer Player of the Year in addition to being tabbed to the all-county and all-state teams.
Taylor Matsinger – Midfielder/Defender
Hometown: New Britain, Pa.
High School: Central Bucks South
Club Team: FC Delco
Matsinger will come to Temple to major in Kinesiology. While playing for Central Bucks South, she served as her team's captain as a senior, while leading the team in scoring for the second straight year. Matsinger, a member for FC
Delco, led her CB South squad in assists.
Ingrid Mello – Midfielder
Hometown: Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil
High School: American School of Belo Horizonte
Club Team: EABH Hawks
Mello makes the farthest voyage to Temple out of the 2013 recruits, as she comes from Brazil. Five games into her current season as a member for the EABH Hawks, Mello has 22 goals and six assists. A year ago she was honored as the team's Most Vailuable Player, as she led the Hawks to championships in the first and second season of the year.
Mello, who is yet to decide her major, carried the Hawks with her 17 goals and 12 assists in 11 games.
Megan Sullivan – Midfielder
Hometown: West Deptford, N.J.
High School: West Deptford
Club Team: South Jersey Elite Barons
Fresh off team MVP honors, while playing at West Deptford, Sullivan was also selected as a Philadelphia Inquirer First Team All-Stae. Her team-leading 18 goals during her senior season, which helped her team to a 15-6 record, also attributed to her earning several awards, including spots on the New Jersey Coaches Association All-State Team, South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association All-South Jersey Team and first team All-Colonial Conference. Sullivan's junior was also very productive, as she racked up a team-high 12 goals and four assists.
While playing soccer for the Owls, Sullivan will major in Biology.
Bryn Wassel – Forward/Midfielder
Hometown: North Wales, Pa.
High School: Lansdale Catholic
Club Team: Montgomery United
Wassel should give Temple's offense a big boost. The Philadelphia Catholic League MVP set Lansdale Catholic's record for most goals in a four-year career, having a total of 65. Last fall, as a senior, Wassel exploded for 30 goals and 26 assists, leading her team to a 16-5 campaign. For her efforts, Wassel was recognized with numerous honors, including spots on the PIAA All-State First Team and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association Team for the second straight year,
Wassel plans to major in Communication and Marketing while playing soccer at Temple University.
