Men's Gymnastics Ends Spring Break Tour With Loss To ECAC Rival Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO – The end of a long, busy week came to an end for Temple Men's Gymnastics on Sunday. Wrapping up their spring break tour, the Owls came up short for the third time in as many meets in the last eight days, as they narrowly fell to ECAC rival University of Illinois at Chicago, 412.550-407.650.
Temple claimed event titles in two of the six events. Graduate student Evan Burke carried the Owls' lineup to victory on vault with his 14.600, which led TU to a 71.600, marking the team's highest combined total in event on the day. Fellow grad student Taylor Brana and freshman Evan Eigner paced the Owls with like 14.2 scores on rings.
Later on in the meet, Brana proved to be the most dominant on parallel bars, as he claimed the highest mark among all gymnasts that competed in the event with his impressive, 14.1 score.
Senior Alex Tighe also came away as an individual event champion Sunday. On the horizontal bar, he scored a 14.1 to lead all competitors after he placed as Temple's top-finisher on pommel horse (13.5).
In his floor exercise routine, Burke demonstrated a strong effort as he captured the runner-up spot for the title in the event.
Participating in all six events, freshman Jon Rydzefski totaled a score of 78.950 to rank third among all-arounders in the meet and ahead of senior Allan Malone, who registered a 77.300.
Temple drops to 10-6 on the year and will now return home to begin training for Saturday's home meet at McGonigle Hall, where it will host Army and Navy in what will be its Homecoming and Senior Day meet. Competition begins at 2:00 p.m.
